Green Concern for Development (GREENCODE) works for the promotion of environmental and human rights protection in and around the coastal forest communities through education, information sharing, research and direct community demonstration interventions.

GREENCODE with support from United Nations Development Programmes (UNDP) and Global Environment Facility (GEF), intend to implement “Mangrove Conservation Project in Esuk Mba and Akwa Esuk Iyamba Communities” in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State. The project aimed at reducing household carbon emission by 30% and encouraging the use of alternative energy sources and also promoting environmental conservation at the grassroots level, through energy, environmental and climate change education to schools and communities.

Also, training young persons on simple techniques of alternative energy source, demonstrations in the construction of simple improved cook stove with local materials, to reduce the impact of carbon emission and climate change in the community.

 

The Project expected outcome during and after the implementation are;

1). 5,000 members of the community will be educated on environmental and climate change adaptation and will become environmentally conscious.

2). 3,000 mangrove seedlings of both red and black mangroves will be planted in 1 hectare land.

3). 40 efficient cook-stoves constructed by 20 young persons who acquired the skills using local materials, thus reducing quantities of mangrove wood utilized by 30% as well as reduction in carbon emission.

4). 45 youths will benefit from climate change, environmental conservation and leadership skills youth training camp and their capacity built to become change agents/leaders within and outside their communities.

5). 20 youths will be able to trained to connect and install 50 simple plates for mini energy use for phone charging and for radio, with a duration of 6hrs to be constructed with led light bulbs as flash light in a dark room.

6). 2 Conservation clubs established in 2 schools in and around the project community to continue the education and sensitization of school children about environmental conservation.
